Frequently Asked Questions

Please contact us with any additional questions about the project!

What will the house be used for?

Once renovated, this space serve as the new Stanardsville Town Hall. But it will be more than a municipal building; it will be a welcoming hub of connectivity and togetherness, bringing people of all ages and backgrounds together under one roof. It will serve as the new Town Hall, which will triple the size of the current facility. Additionally, it will include improved ADA accessibility, flexible public meeting space, updated technology, and dedicated offices for the Stanardsville Area Revitalization(STAR) Board and Stanardsville Independence Day Committee (SIDC).

Plans also include an event venue, rotating history and art exhibits, community gardens, and a backup heating and cooling center to serve residents in times of need. Three business incubator spaces will help nurture local entrepreneurs, while converting the current Town Hall into a commercial rental will generate long-term revenue to support downtown revitalization.

How will this project benefit our community?

The William Mills House is uniquely positioned to become a true center of town life. The project will benefit the Town of Stanardsville, the County of Greene, and other community boards, as they may make use of the increased meeting and event facilities. The space will be a hub of connectivity and togetherness, bringing people of all ages and backgrounds together under one roof. In addition to the new home for Town Hall, the space will offer  flexible public meeting space, updated technology, an event venue, rotating history and art exhibits, community gardens, and a backup heating and cooling center to serve residents, and three business incubator spaces.

I am not ready to make a financial donation, are there other ways to get involved?

Yes! Contact us at WMH@stanardsville.org to learn about other opportunities.

When will the project be finished?

Our goal is to complete the key phases of renovation by summer 2026.

Thanks to a generous conditional donation by the former property owner, the house and the land it rests on were officially transferred to the Town of Stanardsville in December 2024. Within 30 months, we must relocate Town Hall operations to the new site and ensure the building serves a public function for the next 50 years.
